Geo Technical/Soil Investigation

EDC has been engaged in providing Geotechnical Engineering services to our clients and has carried out works for Major Geotechnical Engineering Projects in across South India. Geo technical investigation is done to determine the stratigraphy and pertinent physical properties of the soil and rock underlying the site so that a safe and economical foundation may be designed for structures like , Bridges, Weirs, Buildings etc. based on assumed or inadequate data can lead to necessity of modification in design during construction or risk for the safety of the structure.

We conduct land based Geotechnical Investigation with Rotary method of drilling with Diamond Bits and with Hydraulic / Screw feed / Calyx rigs. Marine Soil Investigation is done by using core drilling rigs mounted on either Jack up Barges, Pontoons, Drum Platforms or Country Craft Floating Platforms depending on the location and water currents. Marine investigations are required for bridges across rivers and creeks, Jetties and Wharfs, Pipeline projects (both offshore and near shore) and Dredging etc.

Foundation Design and Design of retaining Structures

EDC offers a truly integrated Geotechnical Engineering and safety Assurance Services for Civil Engineering Projects through our team of Geotechnical Engineers. At all stages of projects we design and carry out geotechnical assessments to assist development. We carry out Ground Engineering design with Geo-Textiles, Vertical drains, Stone columns etc.

Our services also include soil, rock and subsurface testing and analysis for site feasibility, foundations, embankments, pavements, retaining structures, and other earthworks projects utilising state of art software. Our technical team designs retaining structures as per present code of practice and provide optimum design solutions without compromising on safety, serviceability and durability of the structure.

EDC also provides foundation reports with safety checks for base pressure, shear stress, bending stress, combined stress, sliding, uplift, overturning under dead load, live load, wind load and seismic load condition.

Laboratory Testing Services

EDC has the expertise to provide technically superior testing services using state of the art lab & equipment to our clients. Our lab is operated by highly qualified and trained staff adept in using sophisticated testing equipment to obtain accurate results.

Our testing services include:

• Tests on building materials such as Cement, Fly ash, Aggregates, Bricks, Blocks, Rebars, Pre-stressed Steel, Structural Steel, Tiles, Wood etc., as per relevant Indian Standards.
• Mix Designs for Normal, High Performance, Self-Compacting, High Volume Fly ash Concretes.
• Concrete Durability Tests like Water Permeability & Rapid Chloride Permeability (RCPT).
• Special Tests on reinforcement like Bond Test & Salt Spray Test.
• Chemical Tests on Construction Materials, Water and Soil.
• Tests on Highway materials such as Bitumen, PMB, CRMB, Emulsions, Anti-stripping Agent & Bituminous Concrete as per MORT & H Specification.

• Evaluation Tests on Water Proofing Systems.

Water & Concrete testing

Concrete testing services can be availed at EDC for analysing the strength & durability of concrete. The design mix test helps in determining the suitable ingredients of concrete and determining their relative amounts with the aim of producing a concrete of the required, strength, durability, and workability as economically as possible. The properties of Aggregate, Cement, water & Admixture (if any) in use for the concrete mix is studied to determine the assured quality of construction on site and to do Mix design for major projects.

Since the strength and the durability of concrete is directly related to the cement – water ratio, testing of water is also important. Water quality affects the strength of concrete. Tests should be performed to ensure that impurities in the mixing water do not adversely shorten or extend the setting time or strength of the cement concrete.
